SOLO PARTS DEFINED
There are 13 solos planned for the show. This audition and selection process has never before happened at EFHS! Plan to attend the entire audition if you are interested in a solo.
SOLO: Emerald ...the opening solo, awakens the forest, organic and lush in nature, captivating, some expression/acting involved, walking and style is important, costumed in green, will not interact with other dancers directly, extravagant make-up, sets the tone for the show, dancer must be confidant, natural, attentive to detail, and eager to find his/her own voice in the movement, a creative spirit is key...
SOLO: Onyx ...the entertainer, a uniquely technical solo, the dancer must captivate the audience with his/her outpouring of movement vocabulary, impressing the audience with dancing, fast-paced, intense expression of the moving body, dancer must be open to new dance language, creating some of his/her own movement, improvising to release ideas during rehearsals, a quick learner of dance, costumed in black, a hardcore/radical/edgy character...
SOLO: Blue Topaz ...the healer, technical and agile in nature, strong stage presence, an intimate character who is able to communicate with precision, quirkiness, breathe in movement, makes use of the stage, costumed in blue, will interact with other dancers (duet, trio, group), strong energetic stage presence, a powerful mover...
SOLO: Aquamarine ...the humanitarian, an absolutely beautiful solo, invites the audience to smile and find inner peace, very soothing in nature, this solo develops into a male/female duet, breathtaking lifts - must be very comfortable with partnering/being lifted, not afraid to take risks and work in daring partnering, emphasis on soft, sweet expression, a pure and innocent ambiance, costumed in a shade of blue complimentary to Topaz's costume, a thought-provoking piece...
SOLO: Amethyst ...the comic relief, a much needed break from the more serious tones of the show, taking the audience to another state of mind, a playful and whimsical solo, the dancer must be comfortable with onstage humor, using facial expressions, a bit of acting, very gestural with subtle movements leading to bigger, more bold dancing, must be willing to go to extremes, engage the audience in obviously comical ways, costumed in purple, will likely interact with other dancers, underneath the fun disposition, a very caring, compassionate, and passionate character...
SOLO: Diamond ...the moon dancer, magical strength, a fascinating and captivating solo, sort of the "queen" of the forest, the most sparkling character, glowing with elegance and grace, a bit of a haunting solo, feeling hollow and surreal, movement is clean, technical, evokes other events in the forest, a catalyst, unwavering gaze and sheer excellence in mechanics of the body, dancer is lifted to poised positions in the air, a celebration of the night, the stars, the moon...
SOLO: Pink Opal ...the pink angel, a soft and feminine solo, echoes peace and tranquility, brings heaven to earth, dancer must be emotionally expressive, breathy, and able to turn beautifully, full of life and love, dances in the light of the moon - some partnering with Diamond, her presence brings others to the stage (brings people together), costumed in pink, delightfully deep in nature...
SOLO: Rose Quartz ...the messenger, a call to love, to embrace life, quirky solo, abstract in context, bringing the music to life in unpredictable ways, interacts with partnering, lifts, being caught by other dancers, walking/running, lots of floor work, seamless and fluid movement, bringing back some movement from other solo work, costumed in pink (lighter than Pink Opal), some movement with Diamond and Pink Opal, warm and soothing in nature...
SOLO: Ruby ...the enchanted one, a sassy and flirtatious solo, a big personality, must have an air of intimidation, flashy, bold, jazz-modern fusion, details in movement, isolated articulation of body, facial expression is important, stylized walks, costumed in red, eye candy, light and entertaining in nature...
SOLO: Turquoise ...the protector, movement symbolizing sky and water, a solo that "gets into and back to the earth," combining safety release technique, fluid connectivity as ideas evolve, some really organic/human/earthy expression, some moments of powerful and purposeful stillness, Native American nuances, gestural, hands are important and communicate messages, beautiful shaping of the body (in both traditional and contemporary ways), a quiet assurance, nurturing in nature...
SOLO: Sapphire ...the creative one, sapphire...a stone of holiness, wisdom and royalty, soloist brings movement variety to the stage, poised and elegant, dashing and daring, dances with abandon (full body and spinal expression), released falling moments, odd and thought-provoking, varied timing (and unpredictable relationships to the music), costumed in deeper blue, sophisticated and spiritual in nature...
